    Thanks for the effort with the silicate thing.

    From what the instructions say on the test kit, regular water changes are the best way to solve the problem.

    As for the algae problem, the green algae seems to be gone but the dreaded red-brown algae has appeared. I think this is normal and will go away in time. I am planning another water change this weekend just in case.

    BTW... look what your ideas did to my tank !! Thought I would share this cuz you were the one who suggested it.

    Ya the brown Algae is a normal thing, when I went through mine I performed small water changes weekly and used a small tube to vacuum off the algae. It can choke out corals if your not careful.

    the brown alge stage everyone goes through it its part of the ageing process of a tank. when you hear a mature tank that is a year old that means most of these (bads) have come and gone depending on the tank it can take 6 months to a year for this. also thats why some fish are reccomended for new tanks, aged tanks and so on because of these changes
