Green and Brown Algae...Still

yeah it does kind of blow off easy. I can move it with just using the turkey baster. I am getting some chemi clean tomorrow., along with anotherr 15 gal water change. The chemi clean is it also called blue chemi clean? My brother in law was talking to me about it last night.

 

Could it be diatoms? I have gotten it looking very similar on my sand bed when I have added new plastic equipment and once when I added extra sand. Once it ran it's course it disappeared.

 

It looks like both. Cyano on the sand and gha on the snails etc.

You're doing all the right steps, small frequent water changes, lower feeding, lighting time, running carbon, phos remover, filter floss change. Its just time and patience.

Have you figured out the source of the nutrient level?

In the process of all your work, clean out chambers/equipment because detritus can build on them leading to nitrate issues, vacuum the cyano out, try removing the hair algae manually and syphon it out as well. Do you vacuum your sand normally?
I had hair algae in my 55g and I sat there every day with tweezers removing it. Took time but its beatable!

I'm surprised the nitrates are remaining so high.As Piano said, you can remove all the algae that you can, manually. Long term you might consider a refugium.

 

the chemi clean I used is just called chemiclean aquarium treatment by Boyd Enterprises. You'll need to follow the directions exactly. I'm wondering if you're confusing chemi clean with chemi pure (since you mentioned blue) - they are two different things although chemi pure is a good product to use for nutrient reduction

 

Yeah I think you are right, it might have been chemi pure.

 

Did another water change this weekend. Cleaned out all the chambers vaccuned the sand it is a little dirty but I have been blowing up into the water column the gha has slowed up as I am still removing some from the whip every day. Keeping my fingers crossed it get better!

 

I want to build a custom sump for the cabinet of the bio cube eventually.
