Eh I've gotten some decent pictures out of my Kodak as well. Its how the camera is used and set up for the most part

I would stick with the major camera manufactures Canon, Nikon, and Sony. But Panasonic makes some great cameras. If the camera is to be used for birthdays and holidays I would look for the features that make those pictures look the best but for Tank photos the best features to look at are:
    -A good Macro mode
-A close minimum focus distance like 3inches
-a number of white balances including at least 1 custom setting
-the ability to have a very high ISO (1000 minimum)
-Ability to turn off the flash
    -a tripod mount
    -zoom lens
    - Megapixel count really doesn't matter as a good 4x6 print only needs 2MP
and most camera on the market far exceed that
    Not essential but will help
    -predictive focus can help with
-Manual focus is a nice feature
    - Spot metering
    - burst mod for multiple fast frames/second

See that's a point and click camera. What you really want is something off this list here.

    Nikon Reviews

Or a Canon DSLR. The difference is HUGE not only in price but quality. Plus these cameras will last you a lifetime if you take care of them whereas the point and click will be lucky to last 5 years imo. All in all it's about where you want to take your photography though. :D Most people are happy with mediocre point and click cameras.
