Buying dogs is DUMB, you can find any breed you want at a rescue or humane society! Our local humane society was filled up and facing numerous dogs being killed, so today I went up and fostered an adult dog on the list and he's turning out to be an amazing dog. He came from a neglected past from a animal hoarder and is skinny as heck. But I'll get him fattened up on some venison, gotta go get me another one this week to restock the freezer.

But please, if you can, go rescue a dog or cat, and PLEASE do not buy one, especially from a store or breeder. There are plenty you can have for free or damned near free, at least cheaper than buying them;)

Also, fix your dogs and cats! im getting sick of seeing them killed!

Thanks for listening to my rant. So please help me in welcoming BRUTUS the buckeye to my home;)

    God Bless you Ryan.

Unfortunately shelters are the last stop for the vast majority of animals picked up or turned it.

By fostering an animal you get them back out into the community and one step closer to a forever home.

When fostering a pet it's best to pick one that fits in with your current house hold. Remember shelters seldom know the true history of any given animal. Using a trainer to help deal with any issues such as dog aggression, people aggression, house training is both rewarding to a foster pet as well as the family or person.

Congrats Ryan, he has a beautiful face.

    Rant over!

lol, thanks Cheryl, excellent points. I've worked with animal rescues for 20+ years and used to help train problem dogs, but when I became a single father of a 4 month old boy I had to stop because it was too dangerous to bring unknown dogs into the house with a baby. But now that he's older I can start again. I went through about 10 dogs on the urgent list before I settled on Brutus. I tried to illicit aggression from him on my own, then did some small dog and cat tests at the shelter, then introduced him to my dogs and kid. He came from an animal hoarder and obviously had little to no human contact. But in a few short hours tonight, he has become an awesome dog. I have him sitting, laying down and almost shaking hands already. If you've ever rescued a dog, you can tell they know they were lucky and become AWESOME dogs very soon. My chihuahua was brutally abused by its owner and its front legs broken, which is why he walks on his hind legs usually, but through training is an awesome dog.

assuming no unforeseen problems, this dog will not be leaving this house till he passes on someday, he's already made his way into our hearts.

GO RESCUE A DOG OR CAT!

    Rant 2 OVER!;)

Ryan I assumed you already knew of the points I posted. LOL.

We currently have a male pit-mix Dutch who has been adopted 3 times and returned. The facility I work at works with all the shelters in the area training hard to place dogs and attempting to modify those behaviors that decrease the dogs chances of a successful adoption.

We also keep and care for all the customs dogs, 30 aggressive and hard working brutes, stunning dogs.

One dog and cat at a time is what I tell myself. Just one act of care a day will be returned to many fold over. Most animals know when they have been given a second or third chance the loyalty can be seen in their eyes.

lol, Cheryl, I know, but I figured I'd throw out what I do with new rescue dogs so others will do it too, its a good idea to spend HOURS at the shelter with the whole family, dogs and cats to find a good home.

I recently had to put down the only dog i never could train. It was a mentally handicapped boston terrier, literally. I got a call 4-5 years ago saying this dog had been in and out of 30 foster homes and had add and OCD, I laughed and said bring it to me. Well they were right, its tail had been docked too short(PLEASE DON'T DOCK TAILS OR FIX EARS ITS INHUMANE) and when they docked it, it lost spinal fluid and it bacame special. It would stare at a wall barking or chasing its non existent tail till it would throw up or pass out, nothing we could do. I tried.

But kudos to you cheryl for taking on that many at once, I thought your patience on here was great, but that pails in comparison to that many problem dogs. Thank you;)

Good on ya! We have two shelter dogs and Mrs. Wolfe is pressuring me for a third. We're going to a rescue event this weekend to check 'em out.

We won't ever have a dog that's not from a shelter or rescue.

Right on! We have two rescue cats, and wouldn't have it any other way. There's too many pets out there (and children, btw) to have to go to a breeder or such...
