I just picked up a 4 inch purple Fungia. I noticed it's feeder tentacles weren't out at the LFS today or at night tonight. Is this normal? Is it just acclimating?

    TIA!

    Not uncommon.

Is it in the sand bed?

They can be very touchy about flow. One thing about plates IME is that if over the course of time you do not polyp extension there is usually an issue that needs correction or you will loose the coral.

I just put it in the tank a few hours ago. It is in the sand bed. I wold say it has moderate flow.

The tentacles are still not out. It's not bleached or anything, it still has a nice color.

It's not happy for some reason, although it hasn't been in your tank for very long. Did you try feeding it?

It has been in the tank for about 15 hours. What should I try feeding it?

I would give it a day or two to acclimate.

    Will do.

What type of food does it eat?

Any meaty sea foods, mysids, cyclops, finely chopped sea foods.

Start at night with the feeding response is most likely and train it to eat during the day.

Cover with a liter soda bottle cut in half, place food in the top and give it awhile to eat, around 30 min or more. The soda bottle keeps hermits and snails from getting the food and you use less food.
