Has anyone tried raising a Flowerhorn from baby in a marine tank? I started a coral tank a few months back and i really want to try putting a flower horn in it. Has anyone tried this?

Please let me know asap as i plan on getting one this evening!

I hadn't heard of a flowerhorn so I looked it up - it's a type of cichlid? if so, that is a freshwater fish and it can't survive in a saltwater system

+1 They are freshwater Hybrid Cichlids. They grow quite large and are highly aggressive/destructive.

I would say no and especially for a Flowerhorn. They're meant to be in pure freshwater as they're natural environment water is usually pretty soft and almost no salinity. if it was a type of Tanganyika fish such as tropheus (bred for about 4 years) you could use kosher salt/ Epsom salt and a lil bit of marine salt to buffer the water and make it harder. it has to be at most 10% of what the salinity would be for a normal reef tank. Flowerhorns would no way be happy. Plus from what I've experienced with them, they tear up tanks and redecorate alot so a reef setting wouldn't even be ideal.

Pretty sure it would die quickly in saltwater by dehydration.
