    Do not start over.

Just be patient and correct the current issues one at a time.

Algae is to be expected to a certain degree in new tanks. Always use RO/DI water, do not over feed.

It looks like you have enough flow but make sure the surface of the water is agitated. A compromised fish will sometimes die at night because the available O2 is decreased at night and that is just enough to put them over the edge.

I agree, and its opens up many more possibilities in scaping.

Mmmm. I wouldn't necessarily take the advice of another beginner to literally. There are a lot of tiny critters that live in marine tanks that are very tiny.

I mentioned HLLE on your tang because it can come from stray voltage. Check all of your cords carefully for cracks or cuts. Usually you can feel the current yourself.

All in all, a FOWLR tank is fairly easy to maintain if you follow the basics. Most likely you are doing something basic wrong.

With your current setup, it's not likely that ammonia and especially nitrate are reading zero, but not impossible.

You do need more flow, which you are addressing.

Your rock seems to be very dense, which will harbor less bacteria than more porous rock, so you could use some more.

You added a large amount of fish in a very short amount of time. It may not seem that way to you, at the point you are at in the hobby, but it's a lot. You need to stabilize and improve the system before you buy anymore fish.

How are you topping off for evaporation?

How are you adding salt to the tank?

Any more info would be helpful.

Wow. A lot of posts while I was typing.

Just what I was thinking. He really needs to stay on top of things with a FO system. Hopefully YOU can help him out in the future with what you learn here. ;)

IMO, here's my $.02! Your tank has ich, and the tang kinda looks like it! Now this is can be worked with! Read this, and especially the link the vinny's thread about keeping fish happy!http://www.3reef.com/forums/diseases/ich-101-noob-noob-128391.html

Like others said, I'd double the rockwork! Tangs need some "personal" space as do most fish! There's no private areas for anything in that tank!

Now, if you do think you have Ich, i'd keep the stocking level low! keep stress minimal!

How do you feed the tang the seaweed? Mine loves it and any piece of algae he can get!

    Good luck to ya!

I was juuuuuuuuuuust about to say, some fish require hiding places to avoid predators (thats just their natural born instinct) Adding more rock will allow those fish to seek shelter. Also some fish sleep in the rocks. I have a wrasse that can fit into a small hole i didnt even know was there.

You have gotten a lot of awesome feedback.

How are you topping off for evaporation?

For the evaporation I am using just RO/DI water no Salt in it. Due to the salt does not evaporate. Keeping the Salt leval in the tank about 1.023.

How are you adding salt to the tank?

The salt I add when I do my weekly water changes. I do 5gal of water a week. Make a 5gal bucket of RO/DI heat the water to 80 degrees. Then add the salt to the bucket to 1.023. Just did this yesterday.

Then take out 5gal of water out of the tank and added in the new salt water.

Ok. I am looking to buy more live rock from someplace close buy. So I don't have to wait for it to get shiped. Seems like this is the major consenses on here. Looks like the closes place is about an hour drive away. Decided not to buy any from petco. Not sure what type of rock they have in there tanks. After my luck of fish from there I'm avoiding Petco.

How much more Live Rock do you think I need. I'm thinking about another 20lbs or do you think I should get more?

I will be happy if I can keep the shrimp and the yellow tang alive. But if they die. I don't know.

I would start with another 20 lbs, but make sure it's Cured live rock or you will have a mini cycle with an ammonia spike. Cured means there is very little die off. No visible algae or sponges, nice clean cured live rock.

Are you letting the newly mixed salt sit over night at least?
