One way you could help determine if it is cyano is to leave the lights off for a day. If it is cyano it should just about disappear. Or, check it first thing in the morning. It should spread to be about gone before the lights come on.

I read about turning the lights off for 3 days. I will start tomorrow. But here is an interesting thing... I mentioned that all of my snails died, so I bought a new turbo snail (1.25" pretty big) just to test out my water condition. And guess what, it cleaned my live rock from that black algae I was referring to. I mean you can really see the path that this snail was taking. See the pic (from the back wall it got to the middle section on this rock formation, and went down to the right. It took it one and a half days but its fine, (not sure why they are called turbo snails, but that's a whole new discussion) but I am happy that this stuff comes off. It didn't occur to me that the reason why my rocks looked so black was because I didn't have snails cleaning it.

I also vacuumed some (reachable) parts for the sand bed to remove cyano from it.

I also ordered a suspension kit for my lights, to get a better light spread and mixing of the spectrum. As mentioned on the other thread.

Overall I can definitely see the improvement in health of my tank. I really want to thank you everyone so much for helping me figure this out. Thank you all. I will continue posting updates and perhaps ask questions, but I do think that the majority of my problems has been (or in a process of being) resolved.

Wow. Good snail. It may end up starving when done cleaning unless you start feeding. Glad to hear it.

Yep, its still going at it. I also had my light off since Sunday evening and can really see algae on glass disappearing. I will start running lights again starting tomorrow morning. Also i think algae was the reason for my skimmer getting filled up in such a short period of time.

About six months ago, a buddy of mine was leaving to Japan, and had to part with his 60G in 3 days. He sold everything and the only thing he couldnt get rid of was this tang. It was either me taking it, or letting it die, because LFS wouldnt take him. Even before taking him i was worried my tank was way to small and when i put him in, he was hiding in a corner for 2 days. I tried selling/giving him away, but there were no takers. After a month, he became so comfortable in a tank that when i restarted my efforts to give him away, he must have felt it. Became completely white/transparent, got scratched by live rock, and since his fins were badly damaged by fish from the old tank, he did not look good. Eveyone who came over, thought he was either sick, or that their existing fish would take advantage of him. I then gave up as he looks happy (at least to me). That's my story of a yellow tang.

I've added a few stalks of pink pulsating xenias, was accumulating them for about 2 hours. This morning before lights went on , they were completely closed and not pulsating. When I got back from work, I could barely see them so I tried moving them and have realized that the completely melted away.... Right away I changed 6 gallons of water. There must be something that it really didn't like in my tank...

Once again I can't figure it out.

I just purchased wp10 should be receiving it on Thursday.

What method did you use to acclimate?
