Although detritus is ugly to look at, I thought pods ate that stuff up?

    Detritus:

    • gravel, sand, silt, or other material produced by erosion.
    • organic matter produced by the decomposition of organisms.
    Per google.

Even pods eventually turn whatever they eat into detritus, even simple bacteria will to some extent. When able it's best to capture what you can and remove any build up when able.
