I had a tank sitter watch my tank for a few days, and I come home to a huge cyano outbreak . I performed a hydrogen peroxide dip on the zoa frags in order to kill the cyano attached to them. Picture 1 shows the nasty red slime covering the zoas.

    Needed items:
3% hydrogen peroxide from the drug store
    Bowl
Beaker or other water storage device
    Water from the tank

    Steps:
    1. Fill the bowl and beaker with tank water.
    2. Place infected zoas in bowl. (Picture 2)
    3. Begin slowly adding the H2O2 over the course of several minutes while stirring. Once you see bubbles forming on the cyano stop adding H2O2. (Picture 3)
    4. Let the zoas bathe in the solution for approximately 10 minutes.
    5. Remove zoas from the solution and rinse with tank water reserved in beaker.
    6. Place zoas back in the tank.

Reminder: Zaos are poisonous and have excellent aim. They can and will shoot you in the eye. Use your gloves and safety glasses. Don't be the cool guy that loses an eye.

+1 for thread. Simple steps showing how to perform an effective solution.

Will this method also work for killing green hair algae that is starting to take hold on my euphyllia sp?

Thank you. I wouldn't do any Euphyllia in H2O2. I think for green hair algae you have to choke it out. I may be wrong though.

I know some people have dosed their tanks with hydrogen peroxide but that scares me. I have added solution (out of tank) to hair algae, let it sit for about 10 minutes, rinse the rock in tank water (not in the DT) and add the rock back. The algae will slowly fade away. I've only done this on the live rock, not corals......

I wouldn't dose the whole tank either, scary!

I have dosed H2O2 and vinegar in my tank, because I got a hair algae bloom during the cycle. 1ml of H2O2 and 4ml of vinegar a day on a 20 gallon(3 fish), the Hair Algae went away in 9 days; but the micro algae needed to be eaten by snails. I always have allot of micro algae, because I feed allot, and don't have enough snails.

Thanks Mr. Bill. I hadn't read that example yet. Ouch!

Thanks bob for adding your experience.
