Just love this world of wonder, so much to learn, so little time to do it.

    very true
I visited the shop again Wednesday this week and borrowed their steps so I could look over the top of the tank at the rest of the Clams they had
I was amazed, never noticed this with anything else I keep, but every clam they had looked different in terms of colour when viewed from above
and I then had to spend ages trying to ID the same clam from the front that I had been impressed with from above

I know, it is crazy, but so enjoyable. I think that is why you see only overhead shots online from merchants.

Absolutely beautiful clam....I can't wait to get one too. Have been wanting one since nearly day 1.
Would be cool if the fluorescence would show up on film.

yep! That is why so many people think they did not get the clam they ordered online! The coolest way to look at a clam is turn off your water flow and look down upon it (that is how they take pictures) It looks like a completely different clam!

The clam closing up is a way to tell a healthy clam! I always check that on any clam that I am considering purchasing...I stick my hand over it and if it closes then I know it is genareally ok...you are right they do tend to learn what movement is ok!

I realise that now, I chose a good one, when I went back , I was actually checking if the other clams where nicer from over head, but I got lucky and made right choice

    thanks Night - Rida

I will have to ask my buddy Alex to come around with camera and try

    Thanks 4 phish

thanks schackmel - its good to know, I was anxious for the 1st few days, I figured my Clam was going to be a nervous wreck with the fish movement and the boys going to see it, but like you say, now it doesnt react very much even when we approach the tank, you get a reflex mantle withdraw, but it only last a couple of seconds and its back out again

For years, I wanted to set up a clam only tank. It would have been set up in such a way that you could easily look down into the tank to see the true beauty of these animals. Alas, `twas but a dream that never became reality :)

one of the LFS had a clam tank that I had consideredat one t ime It was the height of a coffee table including the stand and was fairly good sized lenght wise. Was a shallow tank and would have been perfect for a clam only tank. I wanted that so bad......then reality set in! Glad I did not go ahead and get it! But it was perfect height for looking down upon the clams.

Next time you go look at clams, ask for a clear fish bagging plastic container....put that in the tank and look down that way onto the clams...will look even different that way! Even more colorful and clear. A LFS by me has a round plastic viewing glass that you can look down on all the clams and corals....very cool! I even found an acan that just looked like it was a red/white acan from the side, when I used the glass to look down I noticed it was a rainbow, with green poking out of one of the polyps....It was a small frag, so unless you looked at it like that you would not notice it was a rainbow. I did not ask how much it was, or even if they knew it was a rainbow because their tank was infested with flatworms!
