Unfortunately, that bucket won't fit in the sink! It's kind of a small sink. My 3 gallon water bottles do fit, which I use for topoff water. I actually timed it this weekend on the 5 gallon. The sink is right by my office, so if I run the unit while I'm working, I should be okay - unless I get distracted and switch computers and start playing on 3reef and not watching.....like right now.

 

For comparison, my 5G takes 72 min's to fill. How about yours?

 

That's all it takes is one little bit of distraction and there will be water all over the floor. Can you just fill the bottles instead seeing as those fit in the sink or is it just easier to use the bucket?

 

Mine took 85 minutes. I do "water day" once a week where I fill up the bucket and my 3 gallon bottles that I use for topoff (I need to get a life).

Interestingly, since I quit using tap water with the "water conditioner" crap and started using the RO water for my FW tank, the water has been pristine! Imagine that!

 

I know, I'm just waiting for that day! I like the bucket for my water changes because I can add the salt, set the bucket on top of the counter and fill it up from the unit - when I'm ready to do the water change, I siphon it into my 3 gallon bottles without having to lift the 5 gallon. Water changes were fine when my son would HELP! I can lift the 3 gallon bottles with no problem, but that 5 gallon is pushing it! Maybe I need to hit the weight room....

 

Oh yeah. . pristine! There's really no comparison.

 

Yeah, the poor little FW guys have been demoted to the back seat since I got the SW tank. I think they can live through about anything, though! At least they get good water now...

 

To further explain our setup, I managed to plumb the RO unit in where we can still use the cold water from the sink I've got a brass "T" connector right at the water source in the wall, and branching off from that is the tubing to the sink and then the tubing to a gate valve, which then leads to the RO unit. Finding connectors and adapters to get all these things together was a chore, it isn't like PVC where you can just plug and chug. And then I have the booster pump in between the gate and filter. So, all you have to do is open the gate valve which is right at the cabinet door, then turn on/plumb in the booster pump. Taa-daa! Gotta make it as easy as possible for mama

So far so good, I may have to wrap the threads at the gate valve with more teflon tape, because we have a tiny (like 5 drops a day) leak there. It's an insignificant leak, so we're on the fence about fixing it or not. Other than that everything is good.

One question, is it normal or RO units to drip some water when they aren't running?

 

IMO =Jwin=, there are no insignificant leaks. A leak is a problem. If it's leaking at installation, then it will either continue at the current rate, or get worse.

My RO/DI unit doesn't drip or leak anywhere, while in use and not in use. I think you'd be best served fixing this now. You probably just need a thicker wrap of teflon tape. After it's tight as a drum and DRY 24/7, I think you'll be happy you took care of it.
