Hi, I just adopted two clams! Maxima and Derasa. Love them. Clams are the best kept secret. So awesome. Lucky to get them but also know I have work to do.
But I need help. They are in my fish and live rock only 60 gallon. Plan was to upgrade lights down the line. But now I have too!
I've read a lot of threads with light info but honestly I don't understand the jargon or acronyms.
LFS recommended the Fluval Ultra Bright LEDs. I'm not sure that's correct. But like that setup. Don't need anything super crazy for corals.

What do you guys recommend. I'm tight on cash but would rather do this right. I don't plan on corals down the line either.
I'm a nOOb so a little embarrassed to ask so thank you.
If you reply could you give me the full name so I could research online and then shop for best price? Thank you so much!

your LFS is trying to con you. Lights like this are good for fish only tanks, these things can't keep corals alive, let alone clams.

A little tip ballgame, the Clam hanging on the edge can easily fall from this point of view. If you can glue some live rock to make a pocket for it that would be safer. I've heard that if they fall upside down in the sand they can die. I did this myself and you can not even tell where the glued rock is.
P.S. Clams need alot of light.

Clams move. That one will fall. They also need a lot of light. More than most sps. If they don't get enough light, they will slowly die. Light is more important than food for them.

Metal halide, T5 HO, full spectrum leds will all work. Fluval wont sustain a clam IMO. I prefer halides but I kept clams from deresa, squamosa, maxima, crocea happy with T5 lighting. Clams are awesome and if given the right care will live a long time.

And you guys are right. Clams can fall from up there. It's temporary until I can get new lights within couple days. Was told to keep them high. But the picture sucks. Each rock they are on is concave and has a nice pocket which clams are in. Can't tell from the pic. That pic looks like it's on the edge. I promise it's not. Rock maxima is in is really deep. I know they move but these haven't and Derasa foot thingy is latched on to the rock. I tried to reposition it and couldn't.
So I agree and it's temporary. Thanks for the feedback!
Again I love these things. Had no idea how cool they are. The Derasa is very bright colored. The maxima is dull and one part if the mantle "lip" isn't coming out all the way. Assuming it's just getting use the new tank so I'll keep an eye on it. But was surprised the color of is it dull. Hope new light setup helps that.
    Thanks guys.
And if anyone has feedback on the Fluval Seal Full Spectrum light would appreciate it. That or a Pendant was on sale.

The fluval sucks. Petco is discontinuing them and they haven't been selling them for even a year. For 160 you can get a nice taotronics led full spectrum light On amazon or ebay. Todd sails has a write up on 3 reef since he uses them. His tank is amazing. Dont waste your money on fluval.
