Can i use sand in an unplanted tank?

    I read somewhere that it's not good to use sand in an unplanted tank because it can lead to high hydrogen sulfide. Is this correct? I really want to change over to sand. Do I need to add some live plants and if so can I only have a few? I don't like the look of tanks that are full of plants.
