Oh that sucks. Sorry to hear that. It works on bryopsis plumosa. Do you have a link to one of those references? I would like to check it out, I never heard of byropsis or any algae for that matter having toxins that can break down and poison water. Only those that are deterrents or allelopathic. Nutrient spikes sure, but not poisoned water, because of low concentrations. I think it would be cool to find an algae that can release poisons. Sorry it happened to you of course.

No links really. My husband's sister is the botanist and he spoke personally to marine biologists that are his bosses colleagues. This is one of the few easy to read website links regarding this particular species that we've been able to find:

    Bryopsis pennata

That article only referred to the chemical deterrents that make it taste bad. The footnote sources discuss how it the green sea turtle eats it. Maybe that is a good cleaner for it. :)

Thanks for taking the time to look for it for me!

You have an extra green sea turtle laying around that needs to be fed ;)

Where I come from if it produces a chemical agent that taste bad as a deterrent then its a toxin that prevents others predators from eating it.. Like when I was a kid I was bitten by a cottonmouth on my foot . Thats same snake bits another reptile or other animals its seldom or never deadly .. I don't split hairs The expert Dr. that afternoon at MCV hospital the residient snake expert insisted that a cottonmouth could have not been the snake as they did not live that far north in Va . All his reference books said they where never found north or Petersburg Va. I was bitten about 40 Miles west and north of there in Chesterfiled . I'm just glad the older guy with us killed it and cut the head off to show the expert Dr :) Oh I never played in thatlittle swamp again LOL

Great Thread. I know The wholesaler up in Canada is really pushing Fauna Marine products. I have a couple of Friends on the whole system.

Good to know there is an answer to those impossible Algaes. And with Tangster's endorsement can't really go wrong

I used Kents M-Tech and started around 1380ppm and brought it up to 1800ppm rather quickly over two days without any noticeable probelms, and my bryopsis is melting away.

Works like Round Up on the species I contracted. Man, I feel like a junkie who's just kicked the habit and is clean and clear.....:):):):):):):)

Just bought some ultra algea x, time to give it a try, what good is a new tank that full of bryopsis. I just hope it works, I really don't want this green mess anymore.

I've heard good things. I was actually going to try it out on my bryopsis problem, but I ended up covering it in epoxy to kill it off which worked well. It just makes your tank unsightly for a while.

Try a lettuce nudibranch if its a serious byropsis problem. I believe that's the only sure bet to control byropsis, although that's all they eat.
