Brain coral

my brain coral I noticed is about done for it looks like. half of it is pretty much gone. idk my tank is just doin crappy I posted one earlier about the torch coral.. Its looking much better, I tested all my prams my phosphates are way to high 1.5 everything else is perfect :O any chance of saving my brain coral.. some of its still doin alright... i'll try to snap a pic. lights are off thol.

its not easy to diagnose from descriptions
but once they start receding, expossing the calcium skeleton, its often very bad news

once the picture is up, it might encourage more optimism

if you can get it to eat that would help it's chances a lot. I use the bottom of a gallon milk container to protect the one I got when I feed it. I think it's something you really have to keep trying at if it's going to have any chance, just a tiny amount of food once or twice a day, so that way you can keep feeding it and not over feed your tank.

 

I met this one lady on another forum that would save coral from LFS. They were near death and she would bring them back, it was amazing. So yes, it's possible. Keep watch on the rest of your coral for signs of stress and don't give up.

After a year of having my tank, my tank slowly crashed. At first I thought it was just that coral, but then another, and another. I tested my water for the normal stuff (I didn't have a phosphate test though) and everything seemed fine, but I was slowly loosing my coral. I felt like giving up.

I listened to all the advice they gave me on the forum and did what they said and saved my tank. It ended up being iron poisoning. When I pulled out my pump to clean the impella, I saw something on under the pump. It was the propellar of my chiller fan which had iron in it, slowly poisioning my tank. I lost some of my favorite coral. My tank bounced back nicely and was better than before.

Keep trying.

 

+1 damon - he helped me a lot when I got was sold a sick and dieing brain. I now have a successful and growing open brain.
How old is the tank? and were is he placed?

The tank is two years old.. it IS showing its calcium skeleton :/ .. I'll try the feeding thing and i'll get a picture up as soon as possible I will be at school and work all day an my lights are on a timer :/ so when I get home they will be off. but i'll turn them off and get a picture. asap

 

Is he in full light? how long have you had him?

Does he still open up at night?

 

I have him down in the sand bed between two rocks so he doesn't get too much light.. Im not sure if he is still opening up it doesn't seem like it... im posting a picture now

 

Here he is.. most of the damage is the right side.. the back left still looks alright.. its just a smaller frag, Im thinkin about just pullin it. it looks pretty crappy

 

MY 2 cents - Don't pull it - You can still save him - looks 10x better then the one I bought - that died. It will not nuke the tank.

Mine is in full light on the sand bed I attached the last photo I took on the week end.

I think if you give it some squid or shrimp he will recover IMO - just make sure no other livestock bug him.
