    What are the benefits of a cleaner clam in the sump? Are they beneficial? Should I get one? Since my sump light is on 24/7 to control the caulerpa, should i even consider one?

    If you're talking about the sand sifting clams, don't bother. They don't live very long and don't do much IME

    looks like a regular chowder clam to me. remember that clams are filter feeders and feed on phyto. I think they mean it would help lower nitrates by digging in the refugium sandbed not that it eats it. IMO it would do more damage when it dies of starvation than 100 live clams will ever do to help your water quality.

    Looks like the standard variety of COLD water clam.

    FWIW, Tridacnids do well with a little nitrates, so they must utilize them as well. I would much rather look at a tridacnid, if you have the lighting!:)

    these clams are scams! they look like regular clams that are in the waters of NJ.my local fish store had a few of these clams and a week later i went back and saw the empty shells in their tank.if you want good cleaners for your sand beds, stick to sand-sifting stars and banded serpent stars.

    Do you know what killed them? Does anybody have any real experience with these critters? Good or bad, what are experiences of keeping them in aquariums?
