Aquarium Myths | Baby Clams

Not sure if this is the right place, but seems appropriate. I picked up a ~2" blue maxima today for my 125. Lighting is via Reef Breeders value 120W fixture. To acclimate it, I turned the lights down to about 30%. I placed it higher up in my rockwork. Does this sound right, or should I have placed it lower?

 

Marshal you don't need to acclimate clams, they self-regulate their photosynthesis through retraction of their mantel.

Good to know. I was going off of LA:

Smaller T. maxima that are 2" or less in size are much more sensitive to very intense lighting as their membrane is much thinner than larger specimens. For this reason care should be taken to properly photo-adapt them to the existing reef aquarium lighting in a similar manner to newly introduced stony and soft corals. When adapting a new Maxima Clam to very intense lighting, it is ideal to set them on a small rock or in a plastic dish with coarse substrate at the bottom of the aquarium. Over time the clam can then be slowly moved up higher in the aquarium.

So where would you place it? On the rockwork, but higher or lower?

 

Well it jumped off the rock last night anyways, and so is on the sandbed for now:

 

The most important thing ive found with small maxima is make sure they are secure. These guys will want to move a bit until settled and I've lost more that a few because they fell, tumbled, or jump and just got pissy.

I've kept them in the sand but they prefer a good rock under them.

You need a nice almost smooth and almost level place for your clam.
