I was looking into maybe breeding dottybacks and setting up a breeding tank. Purple dottybacks are very cheap so I was just wondering, orchids have been done but are about $40 each as to $20 each for purples

    Purple dottybacks?

These are kind of nasty fish, I wouldn't try to raise them of the other dottyback choices.

hi dottybacks can be breed wiv the orchid and the blue bar dottybacks being the easy's. Generally pairs can be manintained in the same tank, provided there are adeguate hiding places for both of them. As wiv all dottybacks there is no certainty of harmony, so be prepared to deal wiv broodstock aggression. If they breed they will spawn every week to two weeks babies hatch on the fourth night after spawning. u also have better luck using non-traditional rearing tanks such as RBTs {round black tubs}. A lack of corners and dark opaque sides will keep the larvae in the water column. i hope that helps and good luck.

I have to say I agree with horkn on this one... IMO don't know why anyone would want to breed them they are like hell with fins!!! I have never had any luck with one of these not being completely evil!!! but thats just my experience haha
