I just put the lights back on after 4 days of darkness. It looks a lot better, got a little here and there which i think is starving away. My makeshift refugium in the filter sock section of the aqueon proflex sump seems to be working. the chaeto that started off as a ping pong ball size is about a 1/4 of it's size larger. hopefully it will outcompete the remaining of the algae. During these past 4 days, i used a baster to blow off the rocks every so often and changed out the filter socks and phosguard that i put in them, once. I still have the original carbon that i put initially before starting the lights out. My skimmer surprisingly hasn't been pulling much out probably due to the heavy carbon use. Hope you other guys are pulling through this mess of an outbreak

here's a few quick shots I took before going to work. as you can see the birds nest doesn't have anymore growing on it. unfortunately the guy did lose a little tissue on the ends. and the glass is a lot less than what it was and I didn't even scrape it yet. The lower rock work is also considerably less. Of course that pic got photobombed by the flame lol. [IMG][IMG][IMG]

If that is dino, oh man, they are so annoying. I've had them for like 2 months, and finally got rid of them. By reducing the amount i fed my tank, i was able to reduce the phosphate and nitrate levels to very low. After sucking them out every week, they finally dissapeared. Test your water every week, and try to find methods of reducing nutrient levels in your tank. You could try feeding a little less, which is probably one of the only advice i can give you. Good luck with it though! :)

tell me about it, i'll take any algae over this garbage any day lol....i run biopellets and added some chaeto to absorb some more nutrients and phosphates. i already got my tank and everyone in it on a jenny craig diet lol....any less feeding i think they will start knocking on the glass.

I spent two days on just moonlights and they seemed to die off a ton, I then gave them a day and a half to recover with regular lights so that when I siphoned them out there would be something substantial to pick up. Siphoned last night and started the complete blackout, gonna wrap the tank when I get home from work. Let's see how this goes! Also dosed for alk the bring it up from 7 to 9, and ph to 8.4

your params sound the same like mine currently that i got them up to for this battle. i just exchanged and upped my dosage of phosguard and carbon in hopes to soak up some more phosphates which i doubt there is even any left in the tank. idk anymore what this algae is feeding off of it's crazy.

My Dino is all buy completely gone. noe all of a sudden I have green algae starting on my rocks. It never ends. I'm off to hop on a green algae thread now. To conclude on this thread. I lower my feedings and I think that made the biggest difference. I just started feeding cylopeeze every couple days. I was using an entire cube and now I cut it in half. Its the only thing I don't spot feed so I think that was just lasting around in there for too long.. At least that's my theory. good luck boys, herpes of the sea is about right!

nice, glad to hear you defeated it. The reduction in feeding does make a big difference. Good luck with the green algae, but i'm sure after dino's you'll take the green algae any day.
