so I found a guy that frags coral locally and has very fair prices. I'm wondering if adding three at once is too much (neon candy cane, ricordea and neon stylo)

Not at all. Unlike fish, coral don't really count towards a bioload. However they will count towards your calcium, alkalinity, magnesium, and arguably trace elements once you get enough.

so is there a limit on how many I can add? I was also thinking some gsp and maybe a chalice. I have no fish only hermits and snails right now. Also my tanks temp is unregulated right now but stays between 76 and 78 degrees should I invest in a heater?

A heater is definitely a good investment. If these are your first corals I would wait and see how they do before spending a lot and finding out you have a problem.

Be careful with things like GSP- it looks rfeally cool when the polyps are out, but it is quite invasive as it grows.
You have to keep it isolated on a rock/rubble, etc.

Oh wait, do you want some big free pieces? Where are you located? Doesn't say by your name

good on you for resisting the fish temptation. however i would look into adding at least one fish. this will contribute to coral food in the form of fish waste. ofcourse you need to do your homework and do some reading on to what fish will best fit your system.

ibwas thinking a paired set of clowns only. My tank is only 55g I know tangs get too big. I know I have crazy pods but I don't want to add a fish have it deplete them and starve

While I commend your responsibility, and I might be in the minority here, but I think a mandarin or scooter would be fine in a 55. I had a mandarin actually go from starving to fat in a 34g over the course of a year.

However I would not buy a fish just to eat pods. Get a fish that you like. Most fish will pick on pods anyways.

No limit on corals, frags are pretty small so you should be ok with a few at a time.

You definitely can have more than clowns in your 55g. Choose small species that are compatible and with your regular maintenance all should be fine.

I had 2 clowns, firefish, jawfish, and watchman goby in mine.

I love ricordia. What colour are you getting?
