with my limited experience on SPS - the white tips on 1st photo do look like growth to me

the second photo the white area at the base, if that is the superglue ?

I can't see the photos very well. From what I can see, they look fine other than the white base. I'm assuming that's superglue tho

 

It looks like growth to me or it could be rtn, its very hard to tell with the pictures any chance you can get closer? maybe grab the frag and bring it closer to the water level and snap a picture?

 

whats RTN this is my first hard coral sense i finally got all my parameters perfect

 

rtn=rapid tissue necrosis. If it were rtn you would know it because once it sets in, it takes very little time for the coral to die.

 

is that what that what the big peace of the sps had on its back? and sense i fragged the good parts of it off will they not get RTN?

I dont want to interefe on this thread as I can see you are getting great advice

but yes, you may well have saved the coral by fragging it

the experienced SPS people - do need that close up tomorrow and then they will have a clearer picture of the frags condition

when RTN starts its very quick -12hours and a fags is gone, if you have cut up a small frag or collonie from this it can save you a small peice but it is not written in stone it will survive .

 

thanks steve. Macabe, I can guess all day long and try to help you. SPS is weird, especially acropora! I would say, acro as a whole, is the most difficult critter we can keep. There are easier acros and harder montis, etc..... but as a whole you chose to keep a very difficult specimen. I will say this though, acropora is by far my favorite coral and I wouldn't trade my sps tank for a million softie lps tanks. I just love them. We really really need a better picture. RTN is typically caused by a bacterial infection that causes the flesh to basically fall off of the skeleton. Now with that being said, if yours is rtn and I really don't think it is, whether it survives or not depends on how far up the bacteria has gotten. Does this make sense to ya??? (I really hate seeing people get into acros early in the hobby because its a good way to get disgruntled.)
