    Hey all,

Whatever your view of the war in Iraq, you have to have feelings for our men and women (boys and girls) who are over in the desert fighting this war. This is a picture of one of them, my son, Cpl. Al Hasting, USMC. He was injured in the fighting in the past few days, and will be coming home soon. I'm calling attention to him today, because he will be on Good Morning America, interviewed by Diane Sawyer. This show airs on ABC, from 7:00am to 9:00am EST. This is all the information that I have at this time. Here is the picture of my son:

I was happy and relieved to hear, as you are, that Al is going to be well and is comming home.
I am very proud of Al and all our Men and Women who are serving this Country.
God Bless Al, Your Family, all our Armed Forces and America, may all of us be Blessed that we live in Freedom...

    Hey all,

As CMKll said, my son is coming home. He was injured by shrapnel from a grenade in house to house fighting in An Nasireya. The shrapnel hit the right side of his head, and some of it appears to have remained in his eye. After surgery to remove it, he will be coming home, to Chattanooga, TN, where his mother and sister live.

I am so thankful to God that my son's injuries were not life-threatening. I realize that he may lose his right eye, but that is far better than losing one's life. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers for the brave men and women who are serving our country, by fighting in this war. Please continue to remember them, as this war continues to call for sacrifices.

Thank God he will be OK, although I am sorry to hear about his injury. But as you said, it could have been FAR WORSE. I can only imagine your relief.

I wish I had been up earlier enough to see him on TV.

My thoughts are certainly with him and all the brave men and women in the Gulf.

    Here's an update:

Al called his mother this morning at 4:00am from a plane bound from Kuwait to Ramstein Air Force Base where he will have eye surgery. After that surgery, he will be flown to the U.S. Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland where he could possibly go through more surgery.

After all that, he will need time to recover; he will go back to Chattanooga, TN, and stay with his mom until he is well enough to return to duty.

We still don't know very much information about his eye. If he has permanent damage that is extensive, it could end his career in the Marine Corps. If it is not that bad, he could be back at duty within 3 or 4 months.

Thank you all for your continued support!

    Steve (and Al)

Damn...I saw that on TV and I knew the young man looked familiar! God Bless you Wrass and your family. May you sleep better soon! I don't know what I would have done if I had received a phone call saying my boy had been shot in Iraq. I think I would have crumbled. You and your son are brave men. I am proud to count you as my friend and am grateful for your sacrifice.

From me and mine to you and yours.....thanks you from the bottom of our hearts!

    God Speed!

[shadow=Navy, 1, 600]An Update: Al is still in Germany. We aren't sure when he will be coming back stateside. We are all just playing it by ear. This is the military way, though: Hurry up and wait.

As soon as we are certain of Al's schedule we will make plans of our own. Right now, we really can't go to Bethesda, without knowing when he will be there.

I do want to thank everyone again. I've spoken to Al a couple of times now and he is doing quite well, considering. I am confiedent that it was God, through all our thoughts and prayers that has seen him through this ordeal. I ask that you continue to keep Al close to your heart, as he faces the difficult road to recovery.

Thank you all and God bless.
