I hope to start adding some coral next month and wanted to do some research. can anyone recommend a good book on corals. i want something kind of like an "encyclopedia" of aquarium corals. lots of pics and specific information on captive care.

    thanks

Anything by Erik Borneman or Ronald Shimek should be a good read for a beginner. Anthony Calfo is another great author, but his books can be a little bit tougher to get through(for me anyway) and I think he does more coral propagation books than anything, it's been a while since ive seen any of his publishings. I would highly recomend The Conscientious Marine Aquarist by Robert Fenner, that is a must for any beginner, although some parts are a little bit outdated but that isn't too big of a deal.

I think that amazon has a typo on that price. Here is another link @ marine depot.

Corals: A Quick Reference Guide by Julian Sprung

I think I may have gotten an even better deal at Premium Aquatics.

Look to spend $25-35 USD. Well worth it if it helps you make smart choices about even 1 or 2 corals.
