210 reef - taking it slow

Thnx DSC. At only 2" it's not all that big but it'll grow. Even though it's close to the clowns they haven't given it any looks yet. Perhaps to small, perhaps it hasn't let them know it's in the tank or perhaps it's just going to take some time. Nonetheless, it's safe and healthy. Hasn't moved from the spot I placed it which I'm excited about but again, time will tell.

i need to update my sump. It's to small. Has anyone had any dealings or heard of this setup before?

I havent seen it personally in use but I like seeing in my sump. I'd look at reviews to decide the pros and cons.

 

Are those metal clamps under water? Won't they rust and cause some issues?

 

Yep. Right now I change them out every year. I haven't found anything that holds the hoses just as strong. I'd be happy to change them out if you have a suggestion.

I had the same issue scajeo. I basically installed a piece of pvc mounted to the return pump above the water line then mounted the tube with clamp above the water line. Then I wrapped the clamps with silicone wrap type of tape, no issues. You can order marine grade stainless clamps on line, far superior to hardware stores. Just a thought

 

This was all set up by my LFS guy when I was doing really bad after I got out of the hospital. He said he used nothing but these clamps and has never had a problem with them so I've not looked into them at all. I'm not even sure (although I don't know why they wouldn't be) if the outlets are even threaded. It'll be something I'll have to look into possibly tomorrow. It's a great point and I need to look into it, that's for sure.

 

Lost my 2nd anemone. I think I'm done with them, although the symbiotic relation with the clowns would be great to witness I guess we'll have to live our dream though everyone elses eyes.

On a happier note... I got in the Neptune LSM with 5 leds and have it hooked up. It'll be interesting to see how it works. Excited!

Also, got in a 1000x microscope and learning it. I can't wait to delve into the tank and take closer looks at the water and different algae.
