I totally feel for you and share your pain! I have been doing a fish cycle with Dr Tim's O&O and a maroon clown. Everything has been going fine, ammon went up then to 0 for a week now, 'trites went up to almost 1 and is now at 0, trates to -10, and my clown had been moving fine and eating well. Got home from work and the clown was at the bottom, breathing hard, not swimming. Placed it into the sump and never recovered. All parameters are good, ammon 0, 'trites 0, 'trates -5.0, sg 1.025 and has never changed, temp at 76.5, ph at 8, not sure what happened. Seemed like all at once.
Very discouraging, right at the begining....

yea i think the worst part is just not knowing what is causing it, or how to fix it. you basically are just helpless. sorry to hear about your clown! :( its always a sad day when you loose any fish.

Agreed. Ammonia and Nitrite spikes burn gills. It is possible that this is what happened and by the time it was tested it had already returned to normal but the damage was done.Same goes for Seminole. This is why we always strongly suggest fishless cycles.:(

Bringing the tang down to the lfs. They are going to put her in a hospital tank and do some test i guess.

Oh the brighter side i won the lfs raffle yesterday. Got a 24x18x18 exoterra terrarium :)a so mb i can sell it to help rebuild the tank.

Lfs said it looks like vibrio? He did a gill scrape. They are gonna put her in the hospital tank and treat with kanamycin. So hopefully she will make it. I bought kanaplexto treat my other fish.

I'm wondering if perhaps it's a combination of the things everyone else posted.

When you say the parameters are ok, does this mean ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates are at zero (I thought you said you had a trace of ammonia)? If you do, there's a serious issue of where its originating. Was there a possible huge pH drop?

I believe you said that one of the phs fell and blew sand--how deep is the sandbed? Could you have released ammonia or hydrogen sulfide into the tank? The hy. sul. will definitely wipe out animals if there's a lot of it.

I too think you might have stray voltage in the tank. I'd take those phs out asap. I've seen fish act exactly as yours when there is stray voltage somewhere in their system.

Fish will also gasp with a high concentration of carbon dioxide.

I agree 100% with the previous posts. Do a huge water change, run carbon, quarantine, and maybe put Stress Coat in to help alleviate their stress.
