zoas in trouble?

Glad the zoas are doing well..

Tap and conditioner will work..But i would not suggest it honestly..Try and invest in an RO/DI unit, they are only like $100 and will pay for themselves eventully and it will prevent all algae breakouts from happening and much cleaner water.

 

did you recently do a water change? i once got un disolved salt on some zoas and they looked a little worse, but were in bad shape for a while. learned my lesson.

 

normally with my moonlights i turn them on around 1030 at night and work night shift get home at 8 and by the time that comes there has been a few hours the tank has been semi dark with the actual sun coming up so the moonlight doesent have any affect on the tank which gives the corals a few hours of "rest" sometimes i get out of the pattern but i basicly aim for 12 hours of t5 lights and then my moons with about 2 to 4 hours of rest time basicly between 6 and 10 am

 

i do plan on getting myself a ro/di but others things seem to keep popping up before i'm able. have seen a few cheaper options but figure since i plan on having it a while i'd rather spend a little extra for a slightly better unit, which is also slowing me down.
i'm able to buy salt water for now which has massively reduced algae down to a light gha on the top of rocks closest to the light each week or 2. bulb is a couple weeks old.

i did a water change on the weekend and again last night when i thought they were looking off, but it was with natural sea water so i dont think there was any undisolved salt. i will keep an eye on any build up from evap, tho i havent seen anything substantial to date, thanks for the tip.

i am thinking about putting the moonlights on a timer just incase.
they react so well to having them on that i could understand if maybe they wanted a few hours break each night. cant hurt, especially if im not awake to look at them lol.

We ran the numbers and actually settled on having an RO/DI unit installed and maintained professionally. We had purchased one for our last house and with the cost of the filters and the pain of upkeep for about $50 more a year we have professionals taking care of everything. We had been getting water delivered but finding a home for all the stupid bottles ended up being more trouble than it was worth. Either way, it is WAY cheaper than buying water from the grocery store or LFS and easier than lugging around all those bottles. Plus, you KNOW your water is perfect. There's a little light that goes off if the water quality starts to fail.
