    hi all
my water always seams to have a yellow hue to it ever since i started having an alge problem.
iv done 2 25% water changes and still the water is yellow
    any ideas why this is?
i have carbon in the filter and i currently have 2 bags og fluval clearmax in there also to reduce my phosphate level as this is what has caused my alge problem.
    any ideas on the yellowness?
    thanks guys

Could it be your lights also? As bulbs age they tend to take on a more yellowish appearance. If not, I would change your carbon out and greatly increase the amount used. Either a cannister filter or a phosphate media reactor work best for running carbon as those little filter pad amounts of carbon are all but useless.

the lamp is only about 3 months old as the old one exploded after just 4 hours use lmao luckily it was protected behind specialised glass for the fitting.
i have 2 canisters running both have carbon in them. reason for 2 is that i had a spare and thought a faster turnover would be good for gettin the waste out quicker also if i have to set up a hospital tank, iv got a mature filter waiting to go.

Hi, o.k. what type of lights are they? Most T8 and T12 that are for aquariums will still give the yellow look. Tell us what you have (exact name).

the yellow color is coming from the chlorophyll in the algae, algae feeds off of Si, PO4 and NO3,4 do you use carbon or GFO?
