Okay - so I guess I have seen these kinds of posts before but never paid attention to them. So my Temenikki went MIA a few days ago - figured it was hiding, then thought maybe it jumped so I took the flashlight out behind the tank, under the stand, in the crawl space under the tank, but no luck. So I have been trying to see if it was in the overflow - dropping some food in - trying to take a picture in there etc.

Well tonight I just saw it come up for some food. Now whats the best way to get it out - first of all I have a beast of a canopy - solid oak and heavy - it is a 2 person job to get it off, but then - how do I "fish" it out? If i take the overflow out I am scared the vacuum will suck it down to the sump (its a long ride to the sump) so whats the best way?

I went through this with a shrimp. You can stop your return pump then drain water from the overflow and try to net him out. You can also stop your return then drain water from the sump. Then remove the drain pipe and the fish will either flush down to the sump where you can net him, or the water will drain and you scoop him from the overflow.

You just want to make sure you lower the water level in the sump before emptying the overflow into it. If you don't you may overfill your sump with the water that is normally in the overflow.

You can try to siphon him out with a flexible hose if he is small enough and if the overflow is accessible.

Well got him out, Had to take the canopy off, get a ladder, flashlight and net. I turned the pumps off, let the water settle and gently took the overflow out to let the water drain and not to suck the wrasse down the pipe. I was able to quickly net him at that point. Man he was pretty beat up. I am hoping he colors backup and makes a full recovery. I kept the lights off last night and hope to see him eating today when the lights come on.

your process is exactly how I removed my 6 line from my overflow a few times. just drain it down slowly and then scoop em out.

Okay so I wound up getting him out of the dt. Ever since the jumping issue he has been real skittish in that tank and some of the other fish were bullying him. I was able to net him easily so now have him in my 75 downstairs and he is doing very well.

Interesting, my Linespot Wrasse has been ugh more shy since he jumped out of my tank. Wrasses have so much personality....
