Hello this is my very first post on 3reef! I honestly didn't know what subject to post this under. I recently got into saltwater my tank has been up and running for about 4 weeks. I have two clown fish I introduced on the same day about a week ago. After doing some reading on pairing two different types (dope... I know I should have researched before hand I got to excited) it sounds like a bad idea. I haven't seen any fighting besides the bigger one nipping at the little one rarely. Which I have read that's normal. Would these two ever become a pair? Maybe I messed up before the get go but my LFS didn't warn me at all.

Any information or advice will be greatly appreciated!

    Welcome Kamn to 3reef,

They look to be roughly the same size, when purchasing one should be larger and one smaller. Slight nipping is actually a good sign and perfectly normal. One looks like an ocellaris, the one with the cool white pattern, and the other percula.

If your not looking to breed them, and just want two clowns that get along it very well might work out. Clowns relationships evolve over time, so just wait and watch, remove one clown if you see a lot of chasing, fin nipping or torn fins, or one clown hiding.

    :)

I have a black snowflake and black Ocellaris. Which is what I think you have just orange. Mine have had no issues but really it is up to your fish personality. Most likely you will have no issues

Corailline and Chris thank you very much for posting. I'm excited to be here. Yes they are a snowflake and black ocellaris. I'm glad to hear they should be fine!!! Takes the worry off my shoulders. Since I'm new to the hobbies I wasn't to worried about them breeding just wanted to make sure they would get along. Again thanks for the info :)

They should be fine together, breeding these two fish is how you get "black ice" ocellaris, my favorite by the way.

They should be fine but monitor them closely if you see extreme aggression you have to separate them because the more dominant one will kill the other. Good luck and nice pair btw I love clowns:) I'm in a process of putting multiple clowns in my tank.

beautiful clowns. ^^+1 to the advice above. Yes, I'm thinking they could potentially become a breeding pair even though they are not the same type.

If they start locking jaws and twitching that's also nothing to be worried about. They are figuring out which one is gunna be the boss.
