Will shelf hold 10 gallon tank?

    I've made a stand that is more than enough to hold a 10 gallon on top. I decided to run a sump for it (going to be more like a display fuge) and wanted it in the middle of the stand. So I got I made a shelf with 1x2's and it's held in place to the frame with 14 screws, I think they were 2 inch screws. Will this hold up a 10 gallon fuge or will I need to add some bracing?

    first off let me say nice job on the stand. If it were me I'd put a couple of 1x's under the shelf. You could run them from the either vertically or horizontally just for added support. If you run them horizontally make sure to put plenty of screw in the support, but It's only going to hold 100ish lbs max. I just rather over do than under do.

    Thanks, that was my second go at building it. The first was a complete fail.. haha This is much nicer than my original plan with just 4 legs. I will see if I have any more left over wood. I would like to try to put them in vertically in the corners, but in all likeliness, would it hold the tank as is?

    Agreed. Personally, I would recommend the 1x's be placed vertically so that framing, rather than screws, are bearing the weight.

    I would also agree with adding them 1x1's vertically. You also want to be careful adding to many screws into one area, it can actually end up hurting you in the long run.

    It will probably hold for a little bit, but I wouldn't trust it long term. If you don't have wood left over just run to Home Depot or Lowes and get a firring strip for less than a dollar. It's really just an 8' 1x2 with rounded edges and looks like it would fit your build nicely. Personally that's what I would do.;D

    Thanks! I was running Lowes tomorrow afternoon anyways to get a few fittings for the drain so I will see if I can get furring strips.
