I am looking to do some experimenting with some diy live rock. I am looking for a way to make unique colors and designs so that I don't have the standard portland cement white. I've seen people use polyblend and krylon fusion to color their rocks but what I'm really wanting to know is what chemicals in certain paints will harm the coral/fish that I should avoid. Essentially I'm looking to use a wide variety of paints and if I have the material safety data sheets of the paints, what should I be avoiding and searching for? Thanks all!

Don't know for sure, I know the Krylon is fine after dried and in the DT.
After many months, is doesn't matter that much anyways, those white rocks won't be white anymore.

I actually plan on mixing the paint straight in with the aragocrete. Painting on top of the rocks is a just a cheap trick that will eventually flake off. I just have no idea what Im looking for on these msds sheets to make sure they are reef safe.

Krylon is reef safe. It prevents your rock from doing its job where you paint it however. Sealing off areas of the rock with paint renders it almost completely useless as anything other than ballast or decor.

As for the MSDS, no one really knows. Heavy metals are bad generally, most organic solvents are okay. Anything with an antibacterial or anti fungal action would be a problem. It's a bit of trial and error however.
