What do you think about my theory about the particular bulbs you are running?

I should find the PAR level tests from the popular t5ho bulbs. You would see what I am getting at if you saw the numbers UVL bulbs put out compared to other brand bulbs.

UVL super actinics have about 220 PAR. I believe ATI blue plus have around 370 with lots of actinic spectra. Actinic white is around 300.

To be very honest, the whole lighting PAR subject flies over my head. I can't grasp it. I get the basic idea, but I can't make my own decisions there. It's kind of pathetic really, but I'm big enough to admit it.

What I do know is that when it was time to replace my bulbs, I was advised to go to Tangster. As you probably know, this dude is a long time member and well trusted around 3reef. That was enough for me to go with his suggestions.

Granted at the time of his suggestion, I did not have a clam... but the idea was for SPS.

So it's not a debate I can really interject into. I reckon I have at least 3 more months of life left in these T5's b4 I replace them and will probably get something different.

Anyway, you very well may be right.

The clam itself, as far as I can tell, this is only a coloration issue. It still reacts to movement/light and extends its mantle in a healthy way.

The lighter color is now uniform. Once I get my home PC back up (photobucket gave me a trojan from their banner ad) I'll update the pic. But now, it essentially just looks like a different color, it's not even splotchy...

So I really don't know. I can say getting a clam was more stressful than I hoped for! But not as much as I had anticipated ;)

Good to hear, keep us updated please. I have a new maxima and am trying to glean as much info as I can. I can tell you i got the info on the T5's from one of the bests sources on the web, the Grim Reefer on Reef Central. He has done a lot of work on this and has a thread with about 5000 posts.

Did you check it over for pyramid snails?
Burp it when you put it in.
It should be fine where it is.Mine got a little stressed from being up on the rocks I believe so I moved it down but I have a shallow 16" deep tank.I also let my nitrates get up to 20 so it has a good chance to feed before I do a water change and knock them back down.

If you read the original t5ho threads on RC, you will find I contributed quite a bit back then.

I know some here on 3reef really were advocating UVL bulbs, but, that was a bit misguided when other bulbs not only make better PAR, actually cost less, and IMHO look better.
