What Do You Use To Hold Your New SPS Frags to Your Rocks?

    Hi everyone. I just got a slew of frags in the to Fragtoberfest Live Auction and I don't have as many large enough holes in the rock work to hold the frags where I would have really wanted them. What putty or other stuff do you use to hold your knew frags on pegs to the rock?

    If they're encrusting, snap the stem and reef glue it to the rock. If it's not encrusted, I just snap it off the plug and glue it.

    There are so beautiful and my first SPS corals that I just can't bring myself to snapping there stems.

    I agree with Va. I cut the nipple off of the frag plug and then use super glue and that epoxy putty to attach it to the rock. I smooth the epoxy out smoothly to create a gentle slope.

    I normally try to stick it in a crevice or a hole that's already in my rock. If nothing is available then I use epoxy.

    You will find it relatively easy to snap of the stem of the plug off for most of the ceramic plugs. At the shop here, we like to use our dikes (diagonal cutters) to get a nice flush cut. Basically you're tuning the plug into a disk. It's much easier to mount the newly made "disk" with super glue or putty. Makes for a cleaner look if you are unable to find a hole for the plug stem to fit into.

    Ps any metal tools that you do use, be sure to rinse off and clean thoroughly. Metal and saltwater aren't the best of friends... Rusties!!!

    +1 on using dykes. Just be careful to hold on to it so it doesn't go flying off when you snip the stem. I instantly fragged a nice colony dropping it on the floor like that lol.
