Hey guys. I was in my local pet store last night and was looking through the Ultimate Marine Aquarium book. There was a 700 gallon + tank in there called the "Impossible reef." This was a full reef aquarium and seemed to be lit only by standard and vho flourescents. In the pics the tank appeared to be thriving, including the corals. I don't know the details of the tank because I wasn't able to read the full article, I'll buy the book next payday. Anyway, does this seem to be possible? Omard, I think in another thread you mentioned you have this book so you can probably fill in a few details that I'm missing. 8)

I've seen a mertens carpet anemone in a 55gallon tank under only 2x 32w normal fluorescents, doing well and thriving for 5 years solid. Proved to me that anything is possible in this hobby.

vho's are actually very good if properly maintained and you can keep the temp under control

I'm a bit late finding this thread but for those interested the tank is lit by:
    2 40W actinics, 2 40W Ultralumes, 14 160W VHO actinics, and 6 160W VHO daylight bulbs with a 12 hour photoperiod.

The book Ultimate Marine Aquariums by Michael Paletta is definately a good read.

Sounds great I look forward to watching the progress. Do you have a plan for what types of corals you will have.
