    I owned two red eared one year ago, and I know nothing about a turtle.
    It is a shame for me, I agree. We will begin and see how they go from ground to stand on feet, because of my thick-head.

    This is the beginning of the story;
    I bought them from petshop for five TL, for each one.(our currency, which 1 american dollar is equal to one point eight TL)

    They sold me this glass thing, which is now i call "turtle grave", often called in Turkish turtle forum.

    If posting for double times break the rules, please forgive me. If it is, I agree all the modification of my thread and posts.

    Second Part; Learning About Turtles

    After i do some search, I learned I was torturing them in this glass thing, and who is responsible for this is only me, because I bought it before I learn all the things. But I started, at least. But I feel shame, for this times.

    I found a mini(very mini) aquarium, at least it was a aquarium;

    Third Part: Collecting My Pocket Money, Looking for Budges like a Father

    I started collecting all my money, because nobody helped me at the beginning, even my family didn't want it. But I think at that time, "If I bought, I should keep them, because they wont last long at dealer, because of very bad conditions"

    First, I bought a 50x30x40 centimeter(i remember like this) aquarium, a heater and a powerhead with hang type media

    Fourth Part: Thinking About Canister and Other Things

    I've done from the first place, now I am learning a bit more and getting a canister to keep it "real clean", not only for visual, but for them.

    You can see a hand-on type filter which is bad example of DIY, I say "I do it myself", whispering :)
    And my canister filter is running, Ekol 15 (Turkish brand, 440 l/h, 10 watt)

    Very cool, what type of light are you using for the basking area at the moment?

    Good job being responsible and learning about the requirements of your turtle. Alot of people wouldnt have done that. I can see you have progressed a long way. Congratulations!

    Old type "yellow" light bulb, Philips 60 Watt.

    I am thinking to use infrared one, they both lower electric usage and gives more heat, but it is hard to find here.

    I made sump now, but it will not work until I find a best way to pump water to the "above" sump.

    Here is the sump topic, maybe you can help :)

    @norg.,

    Thank you so much. In every possible way, I am trying to do my best. :)

    Is there a source of UVB rays? If not they need one asap.

    I regularly take them to bask under direct sunlight.

    Which is better I cant know, but at least, I heard so much time that basking under -direct- sunlight is better than artifical UV sources.
