Trying to kick the ICK

Anyone ever use copper in their tanks to cure iche?

 

Supposedly it works if you don't have corals, because you will kill them (corals).

 

Cu kills inverts (eg. Shrimp), so if you have a fish only, system you could use Cu.

 

Will copper kill live rock?

 

It will kill any invert on live rock. so don't plan on having any pods or mysid shrimp. Plus it will stay in your system and it does slowly posion fish.

 

So now I look to some more help on this great forum. How long should I wait to get another fish? My fire gobie is doing great and coral are starting to take off but am scared to try another fish.
I think I will buy a holding tank and use that for the next fish. Was just thinking about making this a 10 gal with filter and heater.
All paramiters are normal except for nitrate but that is slowly coming down. Nitrate is at 40 ppm which is down from 80. I have transplanted some calupra to 75 and it is taking hold and slowly bring down NO3. So I figure in about 2 months we should have it well under control. If that don't work I will probably try a denitrator. They look simple enough to build.
Well any suggestion will be nice.

 

I use a 10 gallon QT Tank with a HOB filter. No media. In the tank I have no substrate and a couple pieces of PVC for hiding.

I do not keep it running all the time. If I need it I do a water change on my display tank and use the water from there to fill it.

I use Seachem brand Cupramine to cure Ich and i haven't lost a tang ever since the full rig is going to cost you around $31 but it will be useful whenever u have a sick fish.

1 50 Watt Tetra Submersible Heater $11

Step1
Fill your newly acquired QT tank with 8 litters from your display tank.

Step2
Install the Submersible heater and equalize the temperature to match your display tank.

Step3
Use a dropper to put 2 drops of Cupramine on your QT tank, then stir vigorously to make sure it dissolves well in all the tank.

Step4
Grab your sick fish from your display tank and move it to your QT tank.

Step5
After waiting 4 hours grab a 12oz. glass and grab as much water as you can from your QT tank and disolve in there 2 drops of Cupramine then put it back in your QT tank.

Step6
Wait 4 hours and grab a 12oz. glass and grab as much water as you can from your QT tank and dissolve in there 2 drops of Cupramine then put it back in your QT tank.

You will end up with 8 litters of display tank water with 6 drops of Cupramine in it after 8 hours.

Leave your fish inside the QT for 14 days because its the life cycle of itch.

Feed your treated fish normally but remember not to overfeed.

You can not use this QT tank for any other medication type or in combination with any other medication, copper becomes heavily toxic if mixed with any other medication.

Trash water remains and never use this water in your display tank!

well it is back and attacking my pink anithis and my coral beauty. So I will start my garlic regiment and maybe try some selcon. I believe this outbreak is cause I try to put another powder brown tang in there and may have shocked it to death. The amount of water in the bag was not a lot so when I tried to drip acclimate it I may have sped up the process a bit to get more water in the bucket. Well long story short it died next day in early morning after I went to work and it was a fairly large fish so I think that it deteriorated the tank conditions and caused other fish to get sick. So once again I will battle this and maybe try to win. O yea I also forgot I added some new rock right before the fish showed signs. tang died 1 week earlier. maybe it was rock and not tang. rock was just base rock and not live at all.
