Thanks all. This thing is barely hanging on. But when clam go down hill it's impossible for them to survive right? Thinking it might be better to pull it out. The shell is barely moving but mantle stays inside.
Glad to know someone else has lost a clam for no real reason. Because that's what's driving me nuts.
Maybe someone grazed on it but I'm not sure. I'll be open to the idea but it doesn't look like it's been attacked or fed on. Looks sick. Hard to explain.

But why am I so bummed about this? I'm not crying but really love clams. Had no idea how cool they are. Funny too because I've never seen a clam at LFS. Yesterday they had 4! A 5-6 inch maxima for $300. Damn that's $$$$.
    Derasa 5-6 inches for $150.
The maxima looks sharp. I took a pic of it. I'll post it when I get to work.

I posted a thread a couple weeks ago about a possible tear in the mantle. I was told not to worry but wonder if that had something to do with this because it's where the tear and intake where this huge gap is.

Anyway. Thanks guys. There isn't a lot of action in clam section so I try to post as things come up. You guys are very helpful and nice

Pic from last night. Sorry its blurry. iPhone camera of something in water is hard to get clear.
I circled the area where the intake is. I circled it because its wide open. So open and big that you cant see the edges. Almost like the intake is gone.
and mantle is barely coming out. Mostly sucked inside.
Also I know what going to happen. At this point Im just sharing info on whats happening

I felt the same way when I lost mine. I still blame the nassarius cheering on the hinge side. Mine was in the sand bed. I have another one up on the rocks and it's doing fine.

Don't disturb it or give up hope its possible it will recover.FWIW I never had any issues keeping clams long term but have always kept them on the sb.Even the rock boring clams thrived there.;)
