no i can clearly see that, that is bryopsis...this on the other hand is much much finer.....i have taken marine bio...i know the difference...with the LFS's confirmation...it IS green hair algae....but its not being taken care of, even with all the steps i've done.

Because im frustrated..and have spent thousands on this tank to have it look like crap.....i have tried everything that everyone has posted..whether they think its Bryopsis or GHA doesnt matter...because ive had my MAG at over 1800, and ive drained my tank of nutrients, changed lights, increased water changes, changed flow, added grazing fish, not fed, blacked out, over skimmed, physically plucked...and im at my wits ends on what to do

This, or if you are really that unhappy with it and think you have tried everything, tear it down. No sense keeping it if you are that frustrated with it.

OK.... so, take a deep breath. Assuming you know what you are doing and know what you are talking about... when you come across a problem, you identify the problem, you apply fixes, and the fixes don't work.... then either you have incorrectly identified the problem, you have incorrectly applied the remedies, or a combination of the two.... right or wrong, it really does not matter. What does matter is that you go back to square one, go step by step, and look at things with an open mind.

Nicely said. I can, however, see the frustration if nothing has worked. :-/ I too have felt a complete loss for what to do about algae. Water changes were helping but I was just changing water, I hadn't found the gunk causing the problem (I was greener than I am today). Now I have a new tank and a new battle with the very bryopsis we've read so much about lol. I assume you know this already, just saying that's how I fixed mine after a long and annoying learning experience. There's got to be something you and the LFS are be missing. You'll figure it out.

theres nothing trapping detritus anywhere is there? a dsb gone bad? (couldnt see that you have one but asking anyway) is your rockwork creating any dead spots?
do you just have the one sump tank attached?
can you test in/out po4 levels with a hanna checker on anything to see if theres any change and at least rule out what isnt the problem?
has anything copper/other metal fallen in the tank killing inhabitants in the LR releasing nutrients and feeding the gha?
if its gha, are biopellets worth a shot? (still reading up on them myself before giving them a go)
As mentioned, you are much more experienced than I so I dont expect to be of much assistance, but maybe something can get someone else thinking. I remember this tank being inspirational reading (like many others on 3reef) as I was planning my own tank and would hate to see it torn down.
