i have an idea on turning my seaclone protein skimmer into a phosban reactor. over the weekend i filled the skimmer with de nitrate and hooked up a mj 900 to it. it seems to be doing fine but i am not sure the water is flowing through all of the media. i thought that if i took the skimmer apart and removed the riser tube it would force the water through the media more thoroughly. my only problem is that i do not know exactly how to get the skimmer apart and remove the tube. does anyone have any experience with taking the skimmer apart? i have read about seaclone mods where people take the skimmer apart and cut the riser tube shorter to allow more contact time with the bubbles but i can't seem to find anyone with instructions. also if anyone thinks that this isn't a good idea please let me know.

BUMP......... this got me thinking about making a phosphate reactor out of my old seaclone. Anyone know how to do this and will it work. I know this is a old thread that nobody answered.

pull the top off of the skimmer and rock the inner tube back and forth gently and it will pull right out

Yes but will it be a effective phosphate reactor?

I don't know. This is how new things come about in this hobby. Trial and error. I will say IMO it's worth trying.

The one I saw done had the top cut off and a pvc cap put on it with a outlet. I'll see if I can find a pick. Basically you cut the whole top off just under the black ring that has the outlet on it and cap it.
