OK, so I'm jumping the gun a bit here, but it looks like we're going to make an offer on a new house. This means that the one-of-a-kind aquarium system I put more than four months into building and years perfecting is going to be going away.

While that makes me sad, it also makes me happy.

Our new house has the following:

    - A floor plan that's in need of major renovation
    - A perfect location for a fish room
    - A new floor plan that will have huge open spaces - enough to support a walk-around tank.

IF this whole thing goes through, here is what I'm looking at:

    - A DSA 300g starfire rimless tank - I am going to hate to see the estimate on this one - 72" x 36" x 24". I might go up to 337.5g and take the height to 27" - not sure yet

    - A very special custom stand like few have ever seen. I can't wait to show this one off.

    - Light "fixture" very similar to my existing hanging glass utilizing AI Sol Blues. I will likely expand from my existing four to six oriented lengthwise, two abreast down the center of the tank.

    - Plumbing down one floor through the stand/floor to the fish room.

    - Expand my use of AI Sol Blues to a total of six

    - All the other stuff I'll be moving over from my existing system (Bubble King, Aqua UV 200w, big sump, big fuge, etc.)

You might be surprised; I was pleasantly surprised on my 190 DSA w/ starfire.

However, I did price several options/sizes of theirs before I ordered, and working within their standard footprints clearly made a difference. Also, there was a notable price increase once you went over 27" in depth. But hey, you've gotta do what fits right! :) I was only considering 30" in depth, so staying at 27" to save quite a bit was a fair sacrifice.

Sounds BA! But AI Sols are pretty bad compared to the new Radions, Razors, etc.
I think AI sells an upgrade kit from the Sol to Hydra.

    Darren...let me fix a couple of things for you. ;) 72" X 36" X 24" just isn't epic. You need a 72" X 72" X 24" walkaround, with a center overflow.

    See...much better. :p

Also, I would suggest at least looking into the AI Vega's or Hydra's with your two new fixtures you'd be adding. The Vega I believe you can customize with colors to give you more pop than the Sol's provide.

Seriously though...can't wait for the build if it happens! Good luck on the house and renovations (doing some on my house right now...ugh!)

Upgraded Vegas are way overpriced, $700 for 20 leds and some great controllability
At that point a Radion PRO is a better investment IMO
I like the Hydras, except the 70CRI CW
    I agree with the 72 X 72 walk-around w/ center overflow lol

I had considered a 60"x60" but can't go rimless at those dimensions, which I want to do. DSA said that the biggest rimless they can do with 3/4" glass is 72"x36" - I don't want to go to thicker glass for a number of reasons.

I would want to use my existing 4 Sol Blues - not sure if mixing and matching would be good to do, esthetically speaking. Any thoughts?

It should be fun :) It should also be a lot easier than my last one. Far fewer issues to deal with and the contractor will get to do most the heavy lifting :)
