Here is a little tip for the day. I run dual durso stand pipes for my drains but they tend to get a little bubbly in the sump. Yes, I could spent a few hour tuning them perfectly to make the air intake perfect, but I found running this does the same thing, and I no longer have to worry about my throttling after shutting off my return.

That is a good design. I think I might steal it for my new setup.

    What does that do?
I'm with Vinny! For some reason I struggle with the plumbing.

    um... missing something here...

I just got a Durso on my new system. I need to put a tube downthe hole and tune it because the sucking noise in the hole is awful. But down below. I made a newat device to minimize bubbles and the fizzy sound.

I took the 1" drain, and took a 1" to 2" adapter. then inserted this into a 2" coupler and 7 inches of 2" pipe. Drilled 5 or 6 pinkie sized holes in the adapter part and placed those about 1" above the water line. I routed out the other end of the 1" part fothe adapter so I could push the 1" pipe all the way thru it. it now extends about 1" below the water surface and the 2" part is about 8 inches below water surface.

this way, no gurgle in the sump and no air restriction for the air that is caught in the downforce.

Totally another way to do it. For me it was easier just pushing the PVC tees together Less cutting but a little more cost. My durso holes are perfectly silent even on full bore with my Mag12 so I didn't want to mess with them, but the 'fizzy' sounds as you put it was killing me.

Todd I have this hooked to two 1 inch pond vac blue hoses. I like the look of them and since there is no pressure they do not need to be water tight.

This is a similar design to how I silence a skimmer output but done vertically instead of horizontally.

Look up the Stockman modifications to the Durso standpipe. Its on the same website and works extremely well. I have tried others but keep coming back to the Stockman with an airline stuck in the cap for silence.
