I'm in the process of setting up my 5.5g tank, and it has about 10 pounds of LS and 6-7 pounds of LR. I also have a small goby, some hermits and a shrimp. What would be some good corals to go in it? I was thinking some mushrooms, zoas, and LPS. What do you all think?

Depends on the LPS - euphyllia sp. probably won't be the best choice, considering the room they tend to take up.

Zoas, mushrooms, GSP (if you keep it trimmed), Acans and maybe some easy SPS (birdsnest and monti's come to mind) are always good choices, IMO. Fairly easy to keep and can usually withstand the mild swings in parameters that are so common in small tanks.

what sorts of lighting do you have? most SPS like birdsnest coral do need high lighting. by the way what kind of goby is it? I have a watchman pistol shrimp pair in my little ten gallon reef.

I'm not really sure that a Plate coral would fit in a 5.5 gallon :-/ I'm thinking Candy Canes, LPS wise, as well as zoas/palys, mushrooms, and GSP.

I'm not sure i'd put gsp in a 5.5 unless you only want gsp in a 5.5,lol.There's not alot of room to make an island and keep it from the main reef unless you have very little rockwork.

The light is a 26 watt compact fluorescent with two small moonlight LEDs, but I'm considering upgrading to a Par38 bulb. I don't know yet though because money is an issue haha. I'm not sure what kind of goby he is I bought him from Petco and they just called him a striped goby.

I've been looking at candy canes and I really like them.

A par 38 or 30 would be a good choice, IMO. I personally have a single par 30 over my 6g which had been plenty for everything I've thrown against it so far.

It's my understanding that you don't measure LED by the wattage correct? What corals are you keeping?
