Trying not to spend to much on a start up culture. Especially knowing how delicate phyto can be...

Just wondering what all the extra time and effort would be for, when most dietary needs can be met with commonly available and easier to prepare foods.

Unless it's for Copepods or something similar.

Or just to spoil fish and coral :)

if you have a refugium you dont need to feed copepods, they can get by whats in your water column. of course live phyto helps but i think it isnt worth the candle

Went the live phyto. route for a couple of month's and wasn't worth the hassle. Pods are growing good in sump with cheato in it just fine without live phyto. JMO

The idea is to culture phytoplankton, rotifers, and copepods. To get the most nutritious food source for breeding.
