I picked him up yesterday afternoon and so far, he's been hanging out near the front corner. He was hiding in a cave, which was somewhat expected, but I could still see him.
    You can see him here:

I just did a water change, and he has vanished. I just took a flash light and examined as much of the tank as I can. I also fed the tank, and no go. He did eat some pellets I put out earlier today (was seeing if he would eat them), but didn't come out for mysis and cyclopeeze. Is this common? I'm debating picking up a pistol to pair with him, which may also help get him into a place I can see him. I'm just a little concerned with my fire shrimp and the pistol getting along. Input on either appreciated.

Check to make sure it has not jumped. It will most likely hide in a spot it feels gives it the best protection. If it has been investigating the tank then this is what I think happened.

I just got an orange spot myself about 2 weeks ago,he did the same.Hid in the rocks, didn't show up for feedings, then after a few days,he was out and about acting like he owned the tank.He also eats whatever I feed the tank, real piggy. He still spends alot of time in the rocks and burrows, but he makes regular appearences now.Very cool goby.I should have got a shrimp with him,i still might.

He didn't jump. I checked around the tank and have a biocube with a "fish saver". I guess he's just MIA. He was checking out the tank today. I just hope he doesn't find the RBTA. But I've never seen him above 3" off the sand bed

If it avoids the RBTA you will see it in a couple of days.

I agree and they don't have a swim bladder, they kinda walk or hop to where they go,they will usually always be pearched somewhere as opposed to free swimming in the water column.

Well the RBTA is 6"-8" off the bottom. I think he'll be back. Now... Pistol suggestions? Candy Stripe ok?

from experience if you have corals on the bottom a pistol will tend to cover them up. My pistol burrows constantly and I had to move things around as he would continually cover them. They are very cool though.

I can provide pics tomorrow. Besides my brain coral, I have 2 acans that are about an inch off the bottom. Everything else is 3" or more
