I have small spots of it. I have the DAMN green coralline on my glass and purple on most of my rocks.

It just appeared in my tank...

So I have had the tank running for several years now with no sign of any orange algae, but now it's popped up in a few spots. None of them are particularly amenable to photographing, but here's the best of a bad bnch of photos...

It seems to prefer the locations previously occupied by a deep-red coralline algae, so you get this gorgeous intermingled effect. Looks gorgeous. The photograph doesn't do it justice, sorry.

This appears to be "orange coralline". The other pics look like sponges. Although the orange coralline some people seem to think is just dying red coralline. I'm not sure, but if I cover some rock with say epoxy and remove it a few days latter, usually there is orange patches, which then fade. Or similarly after I do a water change and leave the water at a low level for too long, orange spots usually pop up and then fade. Also in nature, there is a fairly common coralline disease called "coralline lethal orange disease". Coralline is a red algae though, and therefore contains red pigments such as phycoerythrin. So, while I am skeptical "green coralline" is actually a coralline algae, I don't see why it couldn't be orange.

My coraline turns bright orange as well after its exposed to air and starts dying.

I've had that bright red/orange pop up before too. I haven't seen it recently, but it really fluoresces. It's life seems short.

Well this is probably the same stuff then, because it really fluoresces too. Hmm, if it's really dying red algae I'd better have a good look at the tank params tomorrow :(

lot of things can do it. I get a ton every time my water level drops during bit water changes. Its partly air exposure but can also happen during lighting changes when exposed to very high PAR.

I recently got new LED lights and have bright orange popping out everywhere! Someone said it's Prolly Orange coralline. Is this true? 1446692374040-902901763.jpg
