Open Brain Coral

I have a open brain that I just noticed it's soft tissue is torn next to its skeleton shell at the bottom? It's very happy are so it seems? I don't understand what's going on? I can't get a good pic, sorry

It's my Calcium brother. About 6 months ago I had a huge calcium spike so I switched to Crystal Sea and now it's to low..... I have calcium to dose but my tank is small and that got out of hand fast... Lol

What's a good all around salt? I need a good all around salt that will keep perams stable.... Is Red Sea good?

I dosed 14 mils of calcium I'll give it a few days and does again..... Will it repair itself? It's colored up and it's open very big during the day

Well...your parameters are a bit off. I have never owned a brain coral so I cant say much on that. I use Kent Marine salt. Hard to keep alk in check but it is pretty good salt imo.

Please post a pic of the coral.

 

The flesh on a brain being torn could be a few things:

Params off- you need to test magnesium. If mag is low not only does it effect the corals but you will have issues keeping ca and alk stable.

Flow- if the brain is getting too much flow, the flow can tear the flesh. Brains often prefer moderate lighting and flow


Do you have any crabs or shrimp in the tank? Any coral pickers? I had peppermint shrimp tear my brain to the skeleton

Brains are pretty hardy and once the cause is corrected you will see a bounce back

 

Thanks for the response guys. Piano, I do not have any shrimp just some hermits..... I changed the angle of my return yesterday for a bit.... I believe that may have aided in the tear..... I will test mag and post but mathematically it should be around 960, but I will check. Civic, as soon as the lights come on I will post a pic.
