Just got the 55-300mm lens!!! It is AWESOME!!! I will post some of those pics soon! I will be glad to answer any questions too!

 

I had the 55-200mm VR for my Nikon D3000. I took a trip to yellowstone with it and the 18-55mm... I got a lot of good shots but I was dissatisfied enough when I came home to sell off all my Nikon stuff and get the Canon T2i and some nice lenses and I haven't been happier. I realize the T2i is superior to the D3000 in just about every way and that the D5000 is a better camera than the D3000.

If you want to take fish shots, you'll likely want something with a lower f/stop. My macro lens is f/2.8 (though with flash I typically use f/11). Also, a higher f/stop lens won't be that great for lower light shots, so you'll have to bump up your ISO settings. ISO800 and even 1600 provides useable shots. The only time you can really make out a lot of grain is when you don't have them online or at full size. I take ISO800 shots of my tank all the time... that's the ISO setting at 1/100th second and f/2.8 that provides a correct exposure.

 

Yea, the 55-300 was not suppose to be for fish shots. More like nature shots!

What settings/filters or editing programs did you use to get the pics of your aquarium on page 1?

 

If you look on page 3 of this thread you will be able to find out how to get all the info on these pictures. No editing programs were used. One click of the camera and these were what came out!
