    I fully agree. The D40 is IMO a better overall camera. IMO and IME Nikons are better cameras. Cannons are still good, but Nikon beats them out.

    I would also suggest going for a less expensive body. Buy some awesome lenses. Canon and Nikon are both great companies with good products. I personally like Nikon better. But I haven't had either of the suggested cameras, so I cannot comment on that.

    Very good advice Seano, it depends on your budget, but if you go for a less expensive body you can get a killer lense which could make ALL of the difference in your pictures ;) Also remember megapixels are not everything. Many people just buy a certaimer because it has a ton of megapixels, but there are many other things to consider when buying a camera

    ^^The dpreview is a great reference site.
    In my opinion, Nikon and Canon, they are both great photography companies. Remember, Canon lenses are REALLY expensive, when it comes to prime lenses. This is one of the main reason that I went with D90 (Nikon).

    nikon has great cameras if you are lower on funds and dont have the money to go with a canon, but if you have the means a canon although much more expensive has man more options and is much higher in quality.

    Get refurbished stuff from nikon. Never bought new from Nikon and their refurb is equal to brand new IME.

    Nikons are better when it comes to quality and lenses.
