Nikon 1 Cameras | Interchangeable Lens Cameras from Nikon

As I have gotten more and more obsessed with the aquarium hobby the need and want for a better camera than my iphone has hit me.

What do ya'll think about this camera. Seems pretty simple for a non-photographer yet still advanced enough to get some really nice pictures.

(my overall budget is $1000) I would like to get a tripod, body, 2 lenses (macro and something for fts).

I am planning on using Gimp to edit.

From what I had seen and the little bit of hands on experience I had with it they seemed very nice. But for the best bang for your buck the Nikon D3200 will have the most powerful sensor.

D3200 Nikon Digital Camera | Digital SLR Camera from Nikon

The price was significantly lower the last time I checked but its still a really nice camera. It utilizes the Nikon D3000 body which is the only negative I can see with this camera. It will be a bit more than 1000 dollars if you get a high quality macro lens as well but you will have considerably better shots. If you do decide to jump into shooting in manual mode (which is where you would get the best results) this camera has all the options you would need to take some quality photos.

I could always borrow the macro lense from my mom at first. I bet I can find a 3200 used.

What macro lense should I be looking at? I'm trying to shoot coral mostly 10-15" away from the glass. (I can be on the glass... but the corals are 10-15" in)

And I plan to start and learn all in manual mode.

To my knowledge the 3200 is new to the line. Nikon is probably trying to use up the old style body and pushing them out the door with a better sensor. If you dont mind the body style the sensor really makes up for it. But looking for one used is not a bad idea at all. Good call on going with a Nikon. ;D

My mom is photographer, so if I get Nikon I can jump into her closet of super high dollar goodies.

She's rocking some ridiculous equipment. A Nikon D4 and a D800. I am trying to negotiate her old d3, but it's really more camera than I need.

I really like the price point on the 3200.

I placed a few bids on d7000 out there that are around the price range of a new D3200. I'm going to see if I can land one for 800 or less before I buy the 3200.

I was thinking you might like that. The nice thing is that all your moms lenses are then interchangable with this camera. The camera comes with an 18-55mm lens as well which is a great general purpose lens. The majority of the photography I do is with that lens.

Very nice!! Besides a tripod and a remote clicker. Anything else I should be looking for right away. Specifically to take aquarium photos that is.

I believe the D3200 is actually a more powerful camera and its interface is improved over what the D7000 uses. If you can get the D3200 I would highly suggest it.
